Counters

Quartz

Quartz counter tops are engineered with pure quartz crystals, uniting nature and science together, delivering drama and beauty without sacrificing performance. Quartz is perfect for people with a specific colour in mind that is not available in granite. Quartz counters are low maintenance, durable, and heat and scratch resistant.

Granite

Granite counter tops have been around for decades due to their natural beauty, durability and return value when it comes time to sell. With more than 3000 granite colours being mined around the world, each piece of granite used is unique, with a wide variety of veins, swirls, and crystal patterns.

Solid Surfaces

Solid Surface counter tops are widely used in commercial applications, such as hospitals, restaurants and retail stores, due to the design versatility, stylish inlays, virtually invisible seams, and limitless edging and colour options. Made of 100% acrylic resins, Solid Surface counters are nonporous, fire-retardant, and proprietary colouring agents that create uniform colour throughout the surface thickness.

Counter FAQ

Listed below are some of our most common questions about countertops. If you have additional questions, please contact us 1 877-648-7997

Will our countertop have a seam?

Our goal is to install every counter without a seam to reduce the time during the installation, however, if the counter piece exceeds 8.5 feet (102 inches), by 4 feet (48 inches) in an “L” or “U” shape configuration, it will require a seam. If a seam is required, it is often no wider than a razorblade, compared to thicker granites that normally require a 1/8 inch gap or more because they require sufficient separation to pack the stone adhesive deep enough between the two pieces to prevent the seam from separating over time.

Can we cut on our granite countertop or set a hot pan on it?

You can cut on granite, but since it is nearly as hard as a diamond you may want to spare dulling your sharp knives or damaging expensive cutlery. Be careful when setting a hot pan on your granite due to the fact that stone retains heat and remains hot to the touch for a long period of time.

What is the difference in weight for Granite Overlay, Granite, Quartz and Solid Surface?

Granite overlay and solid surface materials range from 3 to 4 lbs per square foot, compared to 2cm granite or quartz at 14 lbs, or 3cm granite or quartz at 22 lbs.

How is Granite Overlay 10 times stronger than 1 1/4" (3cm) granite?

Granite overlay or “SmartStone” counters are reinforced with a woven fiberglass backing which allows the slab to flex without breaking. The surface can withstand 5000 lbs of downward force, making “SmartStone” one of the most durable granites in the world.

Why wouldn't we just tear out our countertop instead of covering over what we have?

Tearing out a counter top is costly and may cause collateral damage to your cabinets and surrounding areas. Counter tops provide added strength to cabinets in the same manner that drywall adds strength to framed walls. “SmartStone” granite overlays are light weight, and will not cause stress damage to existing cabinets that were not designed to handle the excessive weight of 1 ¼” (3cm) granite counter tops.

How hard is it to reseal granite and how often does it need to be done?

Sealing or resealing natural granite is as simple as applying polish to your furniture. granite overlays require less sealing because our stones are thinner combined with the fiberglass backing which slows the evaporation process over time. How often a counter needs to be resealed depends on the colour of the stone, however normally we recommend every two years for our counter tops, compared to ¾” (2cm) once a year, or 1 ¼” (3cm) every 6 months.

Why is CRS asking for my budget?

Giving us an idea of your budget will allow us to give you proper material options– you may be thinking granite but your budget offers you quartz or solid surface! It’s CRS’ objective ito build Win-Win relationships, regardless of the project or budget. Delivering satisfaction is the only thing that matters for us.
